WISHIN Board Member Melissa Henderson Knows WISHIN Provides Value For Patients And Providers

“Value, transparency, care coordination and administrative efficiency” are four reasons why Melissa Henderson says WISHIN should be considered an essential tool in the delivery of health care.

Henderson is the chief compliance officer of Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative (CGHC) in Brookfield, a non-profit, member-driven insurer. With 63,000 Affordable Care Act “marketplace” members, CGHC is one of the largest and longest-tenured Affordable Care Act individual health insurers in Wisconsin.

Henderson has served on the WISHIN board for three years, but has been following WISHIN’s evolution since its early days. “WISHIN has such a great story, and mission and value,” Henderson says, “that I wish there was a way to market that value even more.” She knows WISHIN has enhanced its marketing efforts “to tell the story so others can benefit from WISHIN.”

Henderson sees WISHIN’s ability to seamlessly create patient-centric community health as key to its success. “Transparency for members, providers and for payers brings together all of those entities,” Henderson says. “It’s ultimately in the best interest of the patients served by the health systems and members of the health insurance payers that we have these transparency mechanisms which allow us to manage care more efficiently and effectively, and WISHIN is the driver for that.”

Henderson sees WISHIN’s not-for-profit status as essential, since it is answerable only to its clients and prospective clients.  “A not-for-profit is there to serve the population of Wisconsin,” Henderson says. “They’re there to provide value, and to do that in a cost-effective way.”
