Wisconsin’s state-designated entity for health information exchange (WISHIN) is offering its services at no cost to new customers in the NW-WI area in support of care coordination and access to clinical information in response to the closure of two HSHS hospitals and 19 Prevea Health clinics.
WISHIN CEO Steve Rottmann says “As the state-designated entity for HIE this is another way we can demonstrate our value in the state! We’re here to help and should be leveraged to help the healthcare providers and patients in this time of need…this is why we exist.”
WISHIN connects more than 2,200 sites of care, including several in western Wisconsin. WISHIN can offer a smooth patient transition as patients seek care elsewhere in the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls area.
WISHIN is the prime vehicle to ensure continuity of care.
Steve Rottman, WISHIN CEO
During a recent Wisconsin Health News luncheon, Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Kirsten Johnson told an audience that with the closure of two hospitals and 19 clinics in Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire, attention must be on access to care and continuity of care for patients and providers in the region.
“WISHIN is the prime vehicle to ensure continuity of care.” Rottmann says. “WISHIN is positioned to support the area as HSHS, Marshfield, Gundersen, Cumberland, Black River and others are WISHIN participants and in various levels of data contribution.”
Representatives from a Task Force in the area have contacted WISHIN to discuss how WISHIN can support the exchange of clinical data. Rottmann says WISHIN stands ready to discuss with HSHS and Prevea Health a plan to receive and ensure the seamless exchange of all its patient information through WISHIN to the network participants regardless of their EHR affiliation.
