WISHIN is a Trailblazer Among HIEs

The Wisconsin Statewide Health Information Network, Inc. (WISHIN) has earned National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) accreditation by securing Data Aggregator Validation (DAV) status through November 2027.

Since 2021, WISHIN has participated in NCQA’s DAV program to present a valuable service to both health care providers and health plans, by providing primary source-verified (PSV) data from its participants to health plans as standard supplemental data for HEDIS® reporting. This helps to eliminate the burden of the “chart chase” for both health plans and provider organizations.

The validation process involves a meticulous review of WISHIN’s data collection processes and an audit that validates the existence of data in the network to the data that originates from the source EHR/EMR.

WISHIN CEO Steve Rottmann emphasized the value of the certification, stating that “WISHIN offers an alternative to the otherwise manual and inefficient ‘chart chase’ — NCQA DAV-certified supplemental data. Health plans can look to WISHIN as the trusted source of clinical information to meet their HEDIS® quality measures in an aggregated way. Certified provider sources don’t need to do anything more than continue to contribute data to WISHIN, it’s win-win! Becoming certified has been an extraordinary learning experience for our team, and we are pleased to be able to offer this solution to our participants.’

Mallory Mueller, Director of Quality Health Integration at Network Health, highlighted the benefits of the certification by noting that “The DAV certification process allowed Network Health to bypass the primary source verification process and utilize data from non-contracted facilities in a streamlined process. WISHIN is able to offer the data in the format Network Health could easily ingest. Utilizing this data increased our rates and reduced administrative time and expense, which was our ultimate goal.”

36 sources of hospital, clinic, and diagnostic data have been certified by NCQA to be used by health plans as supplemental data which has been primary source verified. Health plans can use data from the 36 sources in their HEDIS® process, saving time from having to request or access the data from individual providers. Newly certified organizations in WISHIN’s updated accreditation are Grant Regional Health Center and Clinics and Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin. The updated list also includes the addition of 14 outpatient care ingestion sites, two hospital-based ingestion sites and eight diagnostic ingestion sites for organizations that have been previously certified.
